i saw a seed
that was floating in the sun
i saw a branch that was broken on the ground
i saw a moon that was hanging in the sky
i felt a movement in my hearti
understood the movement that was moving in the sky
the voice spoke clearly and i understood why
that to see with the eyes is said to be sight
still, intellection, more, is to see with some light
but beyond these all
is to see with the heart
and that is wisdom
i saw a bird that was flying in the sky
and its shadow was cast by the sun and the sky
on a river that was flowing through the bye
clouds racing on the wind that were coursing
(through the sky)
a mouse was scurrying between the blades of grass
whilst a robin was hunting, its eye turned to the fast
above, a jetplane made a distant sound
and I stood and sweated my sweat upon the ground
i wanted to free
pull away my skin
course to the sky
beyond trees and limn
and see all at once and
quietly and then
with the eye of the mouse
and tremble-
-in' |
all
mornings
wakened
and risen to sight
of dawning and morning and moments of light
and thence to evening
of darkening and bright
of nighting and sparking of
stars in their flight
and mounting, they, coursing, beyond, to their height
until, again, morning
(descent from their height)
i saw a boy that was growing to man
i saw a father who was etching the sand
with his legend and history and phantasm
of hand
i saw a girl that was coming to meet
her mother beside and just beyond
the swans were swimming on the river
and all that i saw
was there that day
and came to me in such a way
that I paused in my step and
felt my breath
and wondered at the world
